Acupuncture for Pets at Bay Vets

Gentle. Natural. Effective.

Did you know acupuncture isn’t just for humans? At Bay Vets, we’re proud to offer this gentle, holistic therapy for your pets—helping to ease pain, speed up recovery, and improve quality of life.

Our experienced veterinarian, Dr. Jo Leather, incorporates acupuncture into personalised treatment plans for pets with a range of conditions.

About Acupuncture & Laser Therapy

What Is It?

Acupuncture involves the use of tiny, sterile needles placed at specific points on the body to stimulate healing, relieve pain, and restore balance. This safe, well-tolerated treatment works alongside conventional veterinary medicine to reduce the need for medications and their potential side effects.

Similarly, laser therapy offers a non-invasive, drug-free option to support healing and pain relief. Using focused light energy, laser therapy penetrates deep into tissues to reduce inflammation, improve circulation, and accelerate recovery. Like acupuncture, laser therapy complements traditional treatments and helps improve your pet’s comfort and quality of life.

  • Acupuncture needles use mechanical energy to stimulate specific points on the body.
  • Lasers work by using light energy (photons) to do the same thing—without the needles!

“Using light (photons) to stimulate acupuncture points for healing—similar to traditional acupuncture, but with the added benefits of light therapy.” — World Association of Laser Therapy (WALT)

How Can Acupuncture or Laser Therapy Help My Pet?

Acupuncture is especially beneficial for pets experiencing:

  • Age-related mobility challenges - Chronic pain, spinal issues, arthritis
  • Acute injuries - Muscle strains and joint stiffness
  • Neurological conditions, epilepsy
  • Skin conditions and allergies
  • Support for organ function - Cardiovascular, Renal, Liver, Pancreatitis, Incontinence
  • Digestive concerns - Vomiting and Diarrhoea
  • Hormonal issues - Thyroid, Reproductive, Adrenal
  • Post-surgical recovery
  • Anxiety and behavioral concerns

What to Expect During Treatment

Most pets relax during their sessions—and many even enjoy them! A treatment typically lasts between 5 and 20 minutes, and pets often feel calm, sleepy, or noticeably more comfortable afterwards.

We usually recommend an initial course of 4–6 sessions, spaced out over a few weeks. Your pet’s plan will be fully customised to suit their individual condition and progress.
