Bay of Islands Veterinary Services is looking for a Senior Vet Nurse to join our rapidly expanding team in the beautiful, subtropical, Far North of New Zealand.
IMMEDIATE START AVAILABLE.
We require a qualified vet nurse who is available to work full days, at least four days per week. You would also join our after hours roster assisting with Saturday morning clinics and supporting Vets after hours. Nurses are compensated generously for afterhours availability. The role is primarily based in Kerikeri with occasional rostered days in branch clinics (Kawakawa and Kaikohe).
Bay of Islands Vets is an independent, private, mixed practice with 4 clinics spread across the Bay of Islands, servicing companion animals, farm animals and equine. Companion animals are attended from three of our four clinics as well as our central Kerikeri clinic which is the hub for more complex cases and serves as our afterhours clinic.
The practice is well equipped with modern diagnostic equipment, including digital radiography (DR), dental radiography, ultrasound, and a comprehensive in-house IDEXX laboratory featuring haematology, biochemistry, and Sedivue analysers. We also have a full range of anaesthetic monitoring equipment, including a multi-parameter monitor with capnography, ECG, blood pressure monitoring, pulse oximetry, and temperature monitoring, along with syringe drivers, fluid pumps. Our equipment is designed to support high-quality patient care while making your job easier and more efficient.
Being a large practice with 20 vets, a mix of full and part time, large and small animal focused, we have a diverse team with varied interests. Our workload is highly varied from routine desex surgeries and vaccinations to a growing caseload of complex orthopaedic patients, and everything in between.
We have a policy of strongly encouraging a healthy work life balance and our location lends itself well to achieving that. From beautiful beaches, water sports, lots of sheltered boating as well as open ocean access, forest walking and mountain biking, there is something for everyone. Being a tourist destination, we are not short on cafes and restaurants. The region also boasts a number of wineries and craft breweries that offer tastings.
Our practice has strong relationships with local animal charities, Bay of Islands Animal Rescue, Coast to Coast Cat Rescue and the SPCA. We are also keen supporters of Kiwi Coast and their Kiwi Rehab unit.
The practice covers the cost of membership of NZVNA and Registration with AVPRC. CPD is encouraged with financial support for appropriate activities.
Remuneration will be commensurate with experience.

Full-Time | Experienced Large Animal Veterinarian
Bay of Islands Veterinary Services is looking for an experienced full-time farm vet to join our fun and supportive team. Our team includes both new graduates and seasoned professionals, and we’re based in the beautiful, subtropical Far North of New Zealand. Many of our vets enjoy a flexible 4-day work week, and we’re happy to accommodate similar arrangements.

Bay of Islands Vets is an independent, private mixed practice with four clinics across the region. We serve companion animals, farm animals, and equine clients. We’re currently developing a modern, purpose-built clinic in Waipapa to serve as our central hub.
This role is ideal for an experienced vet looking to step away from large-scale intensive systems. Most of our farms are smaller family operations, where relationships matter more than cost-benefit analysis. We also welcome vets with aspirations of practice ownership.
We expect candidates to have NMAC accreditation, and expertise in InCalf and WormWise programs. A passion for dairy cattle and mentoring younger vets is essential.
Farm visits will take you to spectacular locations such as the Hokianga, Whangaroa, Bay of Islands, and other hidden gems. Dairy work forms the bulk of our large animal caseload, with some beef, minimal sheep, and lifestyle blocks. You may occasionally triage horses, but equine cases can be passed on to other vets on our team.
You’ll join our large animal after-hours roster with a frequency of no more than one weekend in six and less than one night per week. Support for small animal emergencies may be required occasionally. You’ll receive 6 hours of time in lieu per weekend, plus a generous call-out fee.
A generous salary is offered based on experience. We cover VCNZ registration, NZVA membership, and provide a CPD allowance.
