8:00am - 5:15pm Monday to Friday & 9:00am -12:00pm Saturday. Please telephone to make an appointment during clinic hours. In addition, we operate a 24 hour, 7 day per week emergency service.
Our friendly and experienced team looks forward to providing your family pet with professional treatment, care and advice. We have up to 3 dedicated small animal veterinarians practising at any one time supported by knowledgeable and caring support staff.
Our clinic and animal hospital is fully equipped to provide a full range of small animal services and stocks a comprehensive range of animal foods and accessories.
The Team
Toni Monro B.V.Sc:
Veterinary Surgeon, graduated from Massey University, N.Z. 1986. Toni has worked for the practice since 1991 and became a Director in 1998. Toni hails from the North and enjoys the great community feeling in Kerikeri. As well as keeping busy with the various aspects of running a mixed animal practice, her focus at work is mainly on caring for companion animals. Outside work and family time, Toni uses her spare time helping her husband develop their lifestyle block, beaching, and horse trekking throughout the beautiful Far North.
Shirley Dryden B.V.Sc:
Veterinary Surgeon, graduated from Massey University, N.Z. 1984. Shirley started working for the Practice in 1988, after several years in a dairy practice in the Waikato and a small animal locum in England whilst on the big OE. Shirley enjoys working with all animals, large and small, although spends most of her time treating companion animals in our Kerikeri clinic. Shirl has a soft spot for ginger cats!!! Outside of work, Shirley is a keen sports person and loves spearfishing and surfing.
Joanna Van Pierce B.V.Sc.:
Veterinary Surgeon, graduated from Massey University, N.Z. 1983. Joanna has worked for Bay of Islands Veterinary Services since 1984, initially in Mixed Practice and by 2000, developing her interest in Small Animal Medicine and Surgery. Joanna is passionate about native birds and has recently registered as a native bird rehabilitator.
Joanna works part-time at the Kerikeri clinic and relieves at Paihia when needed.
Jewel Thomson:
Clinic Coordinator, Jewel co-shares this role with Rachel. Having recently joined the team at our Kerikeri branch after 10 years out of the veterinary field while she focused her energies on being a mother. Prior to this, Jewel worked for Franklin Veterinary Services. Jewel is now back getting into the full swing of things and her interests include music, animals, art and gardening.
Rachel Byfield:
Clinic Coordinator/Veterinary Nurse, Rachel has been working for our practice as a part time staff member for the past twelve years, taking leave during this period to have a lovely daughter with her partner. Her interests include surgical nursing as well as customer service. Rachel has a vast knowledge of equine health and training which she uses to teach dressage and show jumping to children and adults alike
Katie Drummond:
Head Veterinary Nurse, Katie has been working as a veterinary nurse within the practice for the last 3 years and recently gained her qualifications as a veterinary nurse. Katie has a wide variety of interests ranging from the nursing care of large/farm animals to the very delicate care required for some of our smaller patients. When Katie is away from work she enjoys the outdoors, beaching, family and friends.
Tamara Coulston:
Veterinary Nurse, Tamara started with the practice in 2010 and has been gaining valuable experience in all the aspects of nursing ranging from surgical and hospitalised patients to customer service and inquiries at reception. Tamara’s interests include motor sports, beaching and music.
Joanna Newman:
Reception/Veterinary Nurse, Joanna started work at the clinic in 1984 as a veterinary nurse and receptionist. After taking a break for about 9yrs in 1989 to start the cattery Cats in Clover with her husband, Joanna returned to work in our practice in 1998 as a part time/reliever and we are lucky enough to still have her here today. Joanna’s hobbies have always included breeding many different animals from Great Danes, dressage horses and landrace pigs to presently breeding the adorable Cornish Rex cats.
Joey Lewis:
Reception/Veteinary Nurse, after taking maternity leave for 18 months, we are lucky enough to have Joey back on a relieving basis for 1 to 2 days per week. Previously Joey worked for 7 years as the Clinic Coordinator in the Kerikeri branch. In between working and motherhood, Joey likes to take time out to ride her beloved horse.
Carrie Hawkins:
Reception/Veterinary Nurse, Carrie joined the team at Kerikeri in mid 2010 after gaining her diploma in veterinary nursing at Unitec in Auckland. Having worked as a clinic manager and nurse for two Auckland practices, Carrie is a welcome member of our team. Her interests include large and small animal nursing as well as horse riding, fishing and hunting.
